Does Radiant Barrier Work?

Yes, a radiant barrier works by significantly reducing heat transfer, particularly in warmer climates as well as keeping heat inside during winter months. When properly installed, radiant barriers can reduce cooling costs by reflecting heat away from your home, lowering the demand on your air conditioning and heating systems. Factors like the quality of the barrier, proper installation, and the existing insulation in your home all contribute to the effectiveness of a radiant barrier. All of our products are ASTM tested to meet all government standards. Do not be fooled by non-performance look-alikes.

Where to Install a Radiant Barrier

The most common place to install a radiant barrier is in the attic. Installing it on the underside of roof rafters helps block radiant heat from entering the home, significantly reducing cooling costs in hot climates and heating cost in cold climates, (Just like a thermos bottle).

Radiant barriers can be installed in garage roofs, walls and doors to prevent the space from overheating. This is especially useful in detached garages that can become excessively hot during the summer and keeps heat in during the winter months.

In cooler climates, a radiant barrier can be used to retain heat by installing it on basement walls or ceilings. This helps improve the energy efficiency of your home by reducing heat loss.

TempShield Reflective Insulation can be used to insulate air ducts, preventing heat from being absorbed by the ductwork in attics or crawl spaces. This improves your HVAC system’s efficiency while increasing the life of expensive equipment.

CASE STUDY

AG-Barrier

Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest producer of hogs recently concluded a multi million-dollar study on heat stress and, its effects on Hog production. The study concluded that heat stress cost the hog industry approximately $900,000,000.00 a year. By alleviating stress from summer heat, the hogs gain weight quicker, on less feed, a huge bonus. The mortality rate also dramatically changes.
